Feb Mystery B o M +

Kim brought in our sheet of instructions for February's mystery block and this is my version.I'm liking these half triangles.  I'm more confident in making them and by the end of this I'll be a pseudo expert in my mind anyway!
And for those who thought I've totally forgotten about my cross stitch...here;s a little something I won in our Loose Threads guild...now they expect this done by the end of the month!   Seeing as it's almost my blog's name I guess I'll be taking up that challenge!  I'll be dropping that last "S" in this Dimension kit.

Kitchen Ta Da

I've posted details on our mini kitchen reno project over at Lil Salmon House.  Please pop over and let me know your thoughts...was it worth the wait????  And the bottle of pain pills for my aches and pains! lol

Cotton Picking News

This is a mystery block of half triangles some of us in Loose Threads are making.
More of the group are making a block of the month and for January it was SnowChurn. Here is my interpretation.
Our first charity project is a Jungle Fun theme piece for the library's upcoming summer reading program. Each member is contributing 1 or 2 blocks. I got the zebra and this has been paper pieced. I've included the piece of inspiration fabric.

Still staying out of trouble

The kitchen cupboards are all painted and reloaded.  I did purge more stuff and am so happy to have empty space in some of my cupboards!  We decided on round ceramic white knobs and they look wonderful.  It's taking a bit of time to remember we now have pulls where none existed before. I'm washing and ironing the other set of curtains to go up this afternoon as soon as I get the windows washed. And my camera is charging so I can take a photo or two.

Quilting is not happening...too much painting etc or my hands are so sore and dried out.  This weekend is our local creative age trade show and I'm manning the garden club table for the last 2 hours.  I hope to interest some potential new members.

Joe has a new area of responsibility at work. They do that to keep things fresh and put folks where they are best suited.  In this case one of the supervisors quit because after waiting years, she got the call and is now a new Mom! That was the last thing she expected when she answered the phone.  But they have waited the time period when the birth mom could change her mind but no...Sam is a Mommy!  I digress...so Joe has lost paint which he had along with hardware but they added to hardware all the lumber and other building supplies like shingles, siding, deck & garage kits, insulation and the list goes on & on!  He's quite excited about the learning curve...new software that helps design projects...but has some concerns about the staffing situation.  He can't be everywhere at the same time.  I'm sure once he's had time in the new departments, he'll work something out.

Well that's my life in a nutshell...chapped hands, aching back and desperately in need of some pampering time, maybe even a hair cut!  Joe works for Valentine's Day but has Family Day off so I may do a special supper then...I'm thinking homemade chicken parmigiana and salad with fruit & cheese afterward.   I'll keep you posted...Joe may have plans of his own in the works!

PS...this Sunday on The Food Network's  Iron Chef America, our friend Chef Michael Smith takes on Iron Chef Bobby Flay...please tune in or set it for record!  It should be a great show of culinary talents and ingenuity!

Paint & Garden progress

The cupboards are almost done.  I had to pick a litre more to finish the small cupboards over the frig and the pantry.  I will also have to pick up more peel & stick floor tiles.  I'm relining the bottom of the lower cupboards.  Heavy items like pots, appliances etc slide in & out so much better and the tiles are durable and so easy to wipe clean.  I make the know decision...we bought white round knobs and will install them once all the cupboards are done.

I potted up a Tumbler tomato at our garden club meeting.  It was so nice to have the feel of the potting mix under my hands!  We had an excellent speaker who entertained all our asked questions.  I say asked because now I find myself wondering if I should freeze my delphinium seeds.  The directions on the pack are vague and I've seen freeze 2 days and chill for 3 months online. Has anyone had any luck starting these from seeds?  I did quite a number of years ago (last year they were quite sad looking) and I`ve forgotten which method I used.

This will be a busy week.  I`m making a paper pieced zebra block for a raffle our quilt guild is sponsoring. I have some half square triangle to finish up as well as a bathroom curtain to make for my grandsons's bathroom.

Next Sunday, if you get the Food Network, please try and watch Iron Chef America.  Our friend Chef Michael Smith is taking on iron Chef Bobby Flay in Kitchen Stadium!  They taped this late last summer, early fall because as I'm posting this, Chef Michael is busy overseeing the Winter Olympic kitchen!  And that is no small feat! You can read more behind the scenes tales at Bill & Mike's Whistler Olympic Adventure Bill is Bill Pratt, Chef Michael's executive sous chef and Mike is Mike Greer who has had lots of experience in military kitchen.  Bill is also ex military!

Go Canada!
