I think the magic comes from the fabric...I bought some commercially available "hand" dyed fabric in 2 contrasting colours. The yellow has fuchsia and oranges and the green is tone on tone but with lots of "texture".
The 24.5" finished block began as 4 - 16" squares...2 of each colour. You stitch together, cut apart, rearrange, sew together, flip it around, cut apart, rearrange and re-stitch together. Despite having some small pieces, if you measure and cut accurately, they all seem to match up with barely a pin.
I have more fabric leftover and next I will try the convergence method with curves! Ricky Tims has created a wonderful set of step by step directions in his book...check it out for yourself!
