Pretty while they lasted

No matter what, I love my lilies! I'm so glad I had the chance to take these photographs after our house boat vacation and just a day before that ugly hail storm. Otherwise, they would have been a distant memory.

We did a walk around this afternoon and came to the realization that the Russian Olive tree that has been such a show stopper needs to go. I don't remove tress lightly...remember my feelings when we had to cut down the Siberian Elm ~ 5 years ago. We had a huge wet snow storm while the trees were still in full leaf in early September. The 30 year old elm has leaning over the roof of the house. We thought the olive tree which also took a hit would pull through. We staked it and babied it for 2 years, but I think it was not meant to be. Despite there being life in the tree, it's just a matter of time before it splits apart and possibly hurts someone.

As sad as this is, we are now entertaining ideas on a few new options for the back yard. Actually I'm quite excited about what we are considering. A lot of work, not sure if it will be a fall and spring project or spread it our over 2 growing seasons. We'll look closer at it after the trip to New Brunswick. I can't believe we leave this Wednesday night!!!! Lucky us!

Stay cool and enjoy your family this weekend!

We will be looking for pictures when you do your yard work. Sounds as if it is going to be a lot of work but since you are excited about it, I'm sure it will be gorgeous.

Sorry to hear you're losing one of your trees. I love planting things not removing them.

Enjoy your trip! I'm super jealous.

The flowers are gorgeous! Sorry you will have to remove the tree, I don't like doing things like that either, but sometimes it has to be done!

Oh my goodness - your lilies are gorgeous Berta.

So sorry about your trees. It is always heartbreaking to see them go. Thank goodness you are already full of wonderful new ideas for your garden.

Have an awesome trip to New Brunswick. I've never been there --- but someday!!
